Scaffolding Concept Review (Final Fantasy VII/DOOM) - Joseph Donnelly

For my first game, I am choosing Final Fantasy VII, as it is a game that is near and dear to my heart. I am also choosing it as I believe it has a control scheme that is simultaneously simple yet complex to implement in an interesting/unique fashion. I chose to represent it with actions taken in the game. I feel that the control scheme that is closest to the game and most unique is the sword hilt option, but I also feel that the steering wheel meant to represent the buggy is a unique control option for a JRPG, and thus has some merit.

Some questions:  Would the materia sorting controller be satisfying at all? Do you think the sword hilt option is too conventional?

My Designs for Final Fantasy VII:

For my second game choice, I am choosing 1993's DOOM (Steam page here), as it is another game that I am quite fond of. The shotgun design is an immediate and obvious choice, as I feel it provides a nice sense of tactile feedback to playing the game and is obviously representative of it. However, I also feel that the exercise bike controller design, while most likely pretty difficult to implement, is actually quite an interesting way to control the game, and makes playing the game healthier in a way that still feels right.

Some questions: How could I fabricate design pieces to make an exercise bike more unique and suited for the game? Would the shotgun be too obvious a controller for this?
