For our Excitebike design, we wanted to conceptually represent the handlebars of a dirtbike by creating a set of functioning handlebars that used potentiometers housed within to control the speed. Rotating the handlebars individually allows the player to go either a faster or slower speed, while turning the handlebars’ stem results in the player swapping lanes, and tilting the controller forward and backwards can cause the player to lean in the air or pop a wheelie. Within the base of the design, we plan to make it weighted, as to allow it to stand upright on it’s own while giving more feedback to the player in the sense of the weight of the vehicle they’re controlling. Going forward, the circuit playground will also be housed in the center of the handlebars, to increase durability and to make the piece feel more connected.
Questions:
What should we use for the weighted base of our design?
What material would work best for our next iterations? Should we 3D print any specific pieces first?
