Doom 64
Motivation for this game:
The motivation for this game was to do
something similar to the arcade machines where you would use a gun prop as a
controller. However, it would be different here because in Doom 64 the player
would have to move and shoot instead of the “roller coaster” experience that
the games in the arcade have.
Core Mechanics:
The core mechanics of Doom 64 would be to look
left, right, movement, and shooting.
Mechanic Expression:
These mechanics can be fun to do with a custom
controller, if the player can shoot where the enemies are and worry about
moving at the same time. This would enhance the player’s experience as it would
be a gun prop where the player can look left and right, shoot, and move. There
would be another prop that controls the player movement which would make the
player use both arms to control the player.
Mechanic objects or gestures:
There would be a prop of a gun where the
arduino would be at the tip and using the accelerometer it would read looking
left and right. Flicking the gun up would make it shoot in game, like how it
would be in real life. The gun prop would be connected to another prop,
possibly legs, that has another accelerometer, tilting it would determine the
movement of the player.
Questions:
Is there another design choice that would be
more appropriate to use as movement other than legs?
How can this controller be more comfortable to
play with all of the controls that Doom 64 has?
The Game of Life

Motivation for this game:
Core Mechanics:
The core mechanics are spinning the wheel and
choosing cards.
Mechanic Expression:
We want to either make it so that spinning the
wheel is more immersive or moving with a car more immersive. We can express
spinning the wheel by having a wheel controller and spinning would act as a
“select’ which would spin the wheel in game making the game more immersive. For
the car, it is more of acting like you are moving and driving through the
level.
Mechanic objects or gestures:
Spinning the wheel idea would be using a knob
in the middle to determine if the player turns the wheel to select and an
accelerometer to tilt the wheel for the mouse movement. For the car idea would
be using a car to tilt for moving around and knobs at the top of the car to
select and deselect.
Questions:
How to make the car idea work better for mouse
movements?
Is there a more fun way to select and deselect
instead of using knobs at the top?
