Team 2 Progress Review

 By Sebastian and Austin

Our controller is a representation of Diddy’s Kong hat from Donkey Kong Country. Placed on your head, tilting your head with the hat on controls the movement of Donkey/Diddy Kong as well as the Roll/Throw ability. There will be a potentiometer on the brim of the hat that will control the jumping of Donkey/Diddy Kong. Diddy Kong’s hat is an iconic piece of the Donkey Kong games and we choose to create it as a controller to metaphorically mimic Mario’s Hat from Mario Odyssey (where you are able to take control by having an entity wear the hat). As you wear Diddy Kong’s hat you assume control over Donkey/Diddy Kong. As Diddy Kong acts in the game his hat moves according to his movements, our controller essentially acts as a mirror of this. As you move the hat, Donkey/Diddy Kong acts according to its movements. Our hat controller will look nearly identical to Diddy Kong’s hat with minor additions to make up its functionality.

Psuedo Code:

//Accelerometer is placed on hat which is controlled with head movement

//Head movement/tilt direction controls character movement and roll/throw action

When accelerometer is tilted upwards, output Up Arrow

When accelerometer is tilted downwards, output Roll/Throw Button

When accelerometer is tilted right, output Right Arrow

When accelerometer is tilted left, output Left Arrow

Else reset output

//Potentiometer is placed on brim of the hat

//Potentiometer controls the jumping state of the player

If accelerometer is below X value, the player is not jumping

Else (if accelerometer is above X value, the player is jumping
