Scaffolding: Prototype Review

My prototype is for Frogger. The conceptual model of the controller is meant to model a frog in real life that you physically manipulate to control the game. I used a cardboard box for the prototype and included movable legs. When the front legs or rear legs are touched together, it moves your character forward or backward. To do this, I use conductive tape and alligator clips on each leg and when they touch, it completes the circuit and moves the frog. The current prototype has the legs restricted to a predefined hinge-like motion so there could be difficulties in getting the legs to touch, but the real controller will be using a plush frog, so it will have more free flowing legs which should be easier to connect. The accelerometer measures rotation and controls moving left and right.

Do you think it would be easier to connect the legs if they were free flowing or restricted to only one direction? What improvements do you suggest for this design?
