For the prototype, I craft a rough shape and version of what
I want the final product to be. It is a simple box but with two levers on each
side that controls their respective switches, and a large pump that the player
uses to trigger the pump action in the Dig Dug game. The overall design of the
controller is made in such a way to make the player feel like they are part of
the game, adding to a whole new immersion to their experience. The levers
control the movement with simple statements that read each state that is
pulled, and the pump controls the action by completing an incomplete electric
circuit inside when the pump, coated in copper tape, touches down.
For questions, I do would like to know how you think it
would feel to play Dig Dug in this kind of way? If you saw a Dig Dug Arcade Cabinet
using this kind of controller, would that spark your curiosity to try it out?
